Hey, I’m Alicia
Thanks for coming over to my little corner of the internet, taking the time to check out the cool health and wellness stuff I love to share, and to get to know a little more about me.
If you are struggling with your health or just feel like you want to feel better this is a great place to be. I have had a lot of trials and errors with my health over the years and understand how challenging making pretty huge changes to your lifestyle and diet can be.
But I promise, feeling better is worth it.
I was diagnosed with coeliac disease at a really young age (maybe 4), and juvenile idiopathic arthritis at the age of 15. There was a period of time I was in so much pain I could hardly walk.
This fueled my passion to learn about health, nutrition and wellness. I have spent many years working to improve my gut health and overall well being to reduce my arthritis symptoms, and I am proud to be well enough to take no medication (other than very occasional ibuprofen) over the last two years. I have a Bachelor of applied science specialising in human nutrition and I am an associate registered nutritionist with the Nutrition Society of New Zealand.
Accompanied by a certificate in exercise and passion for all things health and wellness, I look at the big picture and we work through many aspects of lifestyle and diet to improve health and wellness.
I am based in Christchurch, New Zealand and provide online consultations worldwide.
Most days you’ll find me investigating some health or nutrition related topic whether this is reading research or books, listening to podcasts, spending time outside in nature, playing with my (arguably a few too many) houseplants, or chilling at home doing something creative like photography or drawing.
I am mostly known for being able to have a good laugh and truly caring about people and how I can best help them.
The things I am most passionate about in life are health and wellness (a bit of a given) and helping others feel better in their bodies day to day. I love photography, especially bird, wildlife (not too much other than birds here in little New Zealand), and landscape photography and spending time outdoors, the more nature the better. I am a little bit of a sustainability and personal development nerd, wanting to reduce my impact and find ways to improve my mind and the way I show up in the world.
I work with people who are looking for answers to their health struggles, who want to improve their health, the way they feel, who are stuck or fed up, who know where they want to go but just need some support to get there.
Working together, we look at the big picture, the many variables that can influence health and what you’ve got going on right now, the history of your challenges, what you’ve tried in the past, your habits and behaviours, and your mental and physical wellbeing. I understand how frustrating and challenging complicated health stuff can be and love to provide advice, strategies, and empathetic support to help you on your wellness journey.
When I’m not busy working at Grounded Health with my amazing clients or on nutrition and health stuff, you can catch me doing some kind of exercise somewhere, whether it’s road biking, walking or adventuring somewhere in the native bush. Or I'll be slothing out at home watching something, reading, or learning something new.
